Welcome to Walking in the footprints of the Ancient Puebloans

We Discovered Supernova 185 and 1054 on a Petroglyph Panel in New Mexico  June 5, 2021!!!!

Imagine walking through the woods and stumbling upon a petroglyph panel that was etched thousands of years ago by the ancient people who walked this land. We have been walking in the footsteps of the ancient people of the Cibola Wilderness since 2003. We will share our discoveries of ruins and petroglyph panels that are hidden in the trees and mesas along roads that people drive by everyday and have no idea they are there.

 A Background of our Discoveries

My husband and I moved from California to New Mexico in 2002. We had been back packing the Sierra Nevada Mountains for years, and were interested in finding where we could hike in this area. We went into the local Visitors Center to find maps and possible locations. We were fortunate enough to meet a BLM Ranger who was a Native American from the local Acoma tribe. She told us that she was starting a summer hiking program to some of the local petroglyph panels and other places of interest. We immediately signed up!!! We went on two hikes with her and became completely enthralled and started hiking on our own.
We never followed a trail unless it was from the Elk, Deer or Bear who happened to be going our same direction. We just wondered what was on top of a mesa and headed there. We worked our way through the trees and brush until we found something. It has been a true backwoods adventure.
These experiences are what initially gave us the idea of doing this blog; showcasing our successes, our mishaps and our blunders along the way. The 3 degree mornings, the 100 degree afternoons and all the joys in between. We are older now and no longer hike in 3 degrees and definitely not 100 degrees. We are still out there hiking, however more moderately than in the past.
ATTENTION!!!!  A few weeks ago we found the most exciting discovery of all of our 18 years of exploring. We are changing the focus of this blog a little in order to cover this new find. We will write the intended blog of our 18 years of exploration, but will also have separate pages covering this new discovery.
It appears we have found an accurate and detailed petroglyph panel depicting the very first Super Nova recorded by the Chinese: sn185. Not only that, but 30 feet away, we found another panel that shows Super Nova 1054. It is a more detailed representation of sn1054 than the Pictograph at Chaco Canyon. We’re so EXCITED!
We are in the process of submitting the evidence of our find to a noted Astrophysicist. Follow the first blog to see photos and our process of documenting this discovery.
